Collage of shapes created from the works of Vivian Springford (1914-2003)

The influence of artists such as Georgia O’Keeffe is noticeable in Springford's work, but her acrylics--behaving like watercolors--were original and skillful.

Springford’s stain paintings "create depth without weight, a quiet dynamism blossoming out from one central point on the canvas, radiating into translucence, their scale both cosmic and microscopic, ethereal but also grounded in physical patterns of the universe or human body."
